September 24, 1955 mchaiken@nmsu.edu Las Cruces NM Dean, William Conroy Honors College at New Mexico State University https://anthropology.nmsu.edu/anthropology-faculty/chaiken/ Married I think the intensity of one's friendships in HS are irreplaceable, and I think of all the fun I had with many friends in classes, student events, and in play. My husband (also an anthropologist) and I have lived on 4 continents and had great adventures working and living in other cultures. It is a humbling experience to recognize how fortunate we are, and how many people we know who are among the poorest of the poor still face life with optimism and hope, a lesson for us all. I've spent much of my "day job" life being a university professor and administrator, and being surrounded by inquisitive young minds helps keep us young (at least that is what we keep telling ourselves). After years living in PA we were thrilled to return to the endless sunshine and blue skies of the southwest, and we enjoy living in the vibrant community of Las Cruces, in New Mexico. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion, it has been a long time!
